Police in Gauteng are investigating after another woman’s body was discovered in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, adding to a series of cases involving women whose bodies have been found in the area in recent months.

According to reports from police and international news agencies, the latest body was discovered in an open field in the Ekurhuleni municipality after a private security company alerted police.

The discovery brings the number of female bodies recently found in the Ekurhuleni area to 11 since July, according to police reporting. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding each death and whether any of the cases are connected.

23-year-old woman killed in Tembisa

The latest developments come as police also investigate the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman in Tembisa on Monday morning.

The woman was reportedly travelling to work at around 5:45am when she was shot on Mapungubwe Street in Temong, Tembisa. Police are investigating the incident as a murder and robbery after her belongings were reportedly taken.

Her identity has been confirmed, but police had not released her name while her family was being formally notified.

Family members have reportedly questioned whether the killing was connected to a robbery and said they believe the person responsible may have been known to the family. Police are following leads, and no arrest had been reported in connection with this particular shooting at the time of the latest reports.
